The Feldenkrais® Method

Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

Brain approach

The Feldenkrais® Method is a scientifically based, holistic health method. It promotes healing and vitality. Its approach is the neuroplasticity – the ability to learn – of the human being.

It works by giving specific attention to functional movement.

We use our abilities only to a small extent. Habits and a fixed use of mindfulness inhibit the development of our potential.

Feldenkrais® Lessons create the conditions that allow you to perceive yourself.

The gentle approach makes it possible for you to experience even unusual movements as pleasant. You experience changes concretely in the Feldenkrais Class. Your repertoire of movements, your self-image and your scope of action will gradually expand.
Problems and pain disappear.

We support you in learning to function better by

  • identifying, promoting and expanding resources
  • refine and increase your awareness of what you do.
  • This mindfulness becomes the instrument of your nervous system to control your self precisely and efficiently. There are therefore no limits to improvements.

I would be happy to explain more to you personally.

The Feldenkrais Method is based on physics, biomechanics, neuro- and behavioral physiology, the Japanese martial art Judo, acupuncture, theory of evolution and psychology.

The complexity and versatility of this method is due to its founder, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais.

Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

Physicist, engineer and judo teacher

The Feldenkrais Method was developed by Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais (1904 -1984). He was a physicist, engineer and judo teacher. An avid sportsman himself, he sustained a knee injury. The doctors gave him little hope that he would ever walk again without complaints. As headstrong as he was, Feldenkrais was not satisfied with this opinion and began to research his movement behavior. For this he used his observations from martial arts and science. He also deepened his knowledge in biomechanics, neuro- and behavioural physiology.

He recognized how great learners we humans are and that many difficulties stem from patterns of behavior that can be relearned. The Feldenkrais Method is based on this ability to learn – the plasticity of the brain.

In 2016 two great biographies of Moshe Feldenkrais have been published:

in German (reads excitingly and quickly): Moshe Feldenkrais – Der Mensch hinter der Methode

in English (almost a scientific work, very informative and interesting): A Life in Movement

Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, Erfinder der Feldenkrais Methode

For whom?

It helps you in every activity, because it teaches you to move effectively and use your skills in the best possible way.

An essential element in the Feldenkrais Method is the (psycho-motoric) development of the human being until the age of 2. It is therefore particularly suitable for babies and children – as a gentle support in their development, or for special needs.

The Feldenkrais Method can be practiced in individual lessons (Functional Integration, short “FI”) and in group lessons «Awareness Through Movement”, short “ATM”.
